Passwords are the first line of defense that we have to protect ourselves from hackers and others who may have ill intentions. Due to security reasons passwords are crucial at Tresorit: they hold key information and help you to access your files in the cloud. This is why lost, forgotten (or broken) passwords cause trouble. For security reasons Tresorit is set up in a way that if you lose yours, there is no way to recover it.

What can I do if I lost my password?
It may happen to the best of us, do not worry. There are two possible ways you can get your Tresorit account back:
- Are you still logged in on any of your devices? If yes, create a Password Code and change your password. You will have a full access to your content, after changing your password.
- If you are logged out on all of your devices, there is no way to recover your password. However there is a possibility to re-create your account, so you will be able to use your current email address and your plan and previous storage quotas remain the same. Visit our guide for more information.
I am still logged in to my Tresorit account. How do I create a new password?
Password Code is a secure method to change your password by requesting a one-time authentication code via email, but it requires a working Tresorit client application that automatically logs you in. Please note that the Password Code feature will not recover your actual password, but it can help you create a new password securely. Take these steps to change your password
Open a Tresorit client and visit <Settings/ Preferences> menu. Click <Change Password> button.
Choose the <Forgot your password?> option under the current password box.
Click the <Send me the security code> and keep this window open, since you will have to copy the password code here. You will receive an email that contains the password code at your email account you used to register for Tresorit.
Copy your verification code to your Tresorit client and create a new password as well.
Please note that this option is only available if you are logged in on any of your devices. The only way you can reset your password is to re-create your profile. Visit our guide for more information.
