In this tutorial, learn more about how to:
- Create a new tresor
- Share files, folders or a tresor
- Create an Encrypted Link
- Define user roles and permissions
- Decline a tresor invitation
- Leave a tresor
- Delete a tresor
There are 3 ways to create a tresor on your desktop device:
- Use the "New tresor" button in the Tresorit app
- Drag&Drop any folder to the Tresorit app
- Right-click on already existing folders
In these cases, you’re simply associating a tresor with a folder on your hard drive, network drive, pendrive, or some other storage device under your control.
Following either approach the application will prompt you to enter a name for your new Tresor. It could be the same name as the existing folder or a different one; you can always change it.
The files in your tresor are the same files you have in your folder. The only difference is that the files in the tresor are encrypted in order to avoid unauthorized access.

There are two ways to share a file using Tresorit. The first is by creating a tresor that contains the files you want to share, and the second way is using links.
HOW CAN I SHARE A TRESOR?
Once you have created a tresor, click on it and select the <Share> icon from the right menubar. You select to enter the email address and share with specific people or create a link and distribute it via any (secure) channel.
You can add multiple email addresses, and specify corresponding roles, all at once. Those individuals you invite who do not have an account will be provided instructions on downloading Tresorit.

To create a link right click on any file in a tresor or on your local computer. You can perform this step from within the Tresorit application, from Windows Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac. From the dropdown menu select <Share (Create Link)> and then specify when the link <expires> or add an extra layer of secury, by adding a <password>. A copy of the link will be saved immediately to your clipboard. Later on you can find a copy of the link on the <Links> tab under the application menu. From the <Links> tab you can manage the link's settings, copy it again, send it via email, or revoke it. Once revoked the link will stop working immediately, even for those users who have already received it.

User roles define the set of permissions granted by the owner of the tresor to invited users with whom the tresor is shared. Each invitee is granted a role of Manager, Editor, or Viewer. Managers can read and edit files, and invite Editors and Viewers. Managers cannot, however, create other Managers. User roles can be changed by the owner of the tresor at any time. Manager, Editors and Viewers cannot delete the tresor; only the owner can do that.
The owner is the person who created the tresor. The owner has all possible permissions to his/her tresor, including sharing with user role granting, and deletion. There is only one owner of any tresor. This attribute can be passed on: the owner should visit the sharing settings of the tresor and select a tresor member to transfer the ownership of the folder. Please note that this process cannot be reversed: only the new owner will be able to pass on the ownership of the tresor.
Manager is the most powerful role after that of the owner and can only be created by the tresor owner. A Manager is able to read, edit and delete the content in a shared tresor. The Manager can also share the tresor by granting Editor or Viewer roles to others. If you, as the owner of the tresor, are unsure which role to grant to an invitee, you might consider a less privileged role of Editor or Viewer versus that of the Manager. Roles can be changed or removed at any time.
Editor is a less privileged role than Manager, but superior to the Viewer role. An editor is able to read, modify and delete the content of the shared tresor, but cannot share the tresor with other users.
Viewer is the least privileged role. The Viewer is only granted read permission to the content of the shared tresor.
As stated above, roles can be changed at any time or removed. To change a role, mouse over the appropriate tresor and click on <Share>. Click on the person's actual role to open a drop-down menu with the possible roles and click on the role you want to appoint to the person and finally, click <Apply> to save your changes.

Yes, you can. If you don't want to accept an invitation, just simply click on the <Decline> button after the invitation has appeared in your Tresorit client.
Sure, you can leave a tresor anytime you wish. You can also ask the tresor owner or any managers to remove your permission (a.k.a. fire you from the tresor) but that is a more cumbersome way to be removed.
Yes, any tresor can be deleted, but only by its owner. The members of the Tresor will be removed immediately and all data stored in the cloud will become inaccessible to everyone and eventually be deleted. Please note that the files stored locally will not be deleted from your or any tresor member's computer.
