Sharing subfolders makes collaboration more flexible and well-structured. By inviting contributors only to specific subfolders within a folder, you can ensure that the right team members have access to the right level of information. You can set and change permissions for different members and revoke access to the subfolders once it’s no longer needed.
To keep things safe and secure in the background we are introducing the next generation of folders within Tresorit. While it will be as secure as the existing folder type (classic folders), it will have the extra capability to support subfolder sharing. You can create new folders or upload your existing folders to next-gen folders in Tresorit like before, but you can also invite collaborators to different subfolders only, without sharing the whole folder.

Limitations
For now, next-gen folders have limitations. As we are continuously working on introducing all the Tresorit features to next-gen folders, you can still create classic folders and use them for link creation, etc. For now, we fully support both folder types.
Platform related limitations
-
The feature is currently available on Windows, Mac, the Webclient and iOS.
- A limited version of the feature is available on Android and Linux
Limitations in link creation
-
You cannot create links on next-gen folders or on its contents.
-
You cannot create file request link on next-gen folders or its subfolders.
User management limitations
-
You can only share subfolders with users who already registered a Tresorit account.
-
User membership can be edited on the same or lower folder level (removing a subfolder member or changing their permission level).
-
To invite a subfolder member to the folder above or to the main folder you need to remove them from the subfolder first, since this operation requires the complete update of cryptographic access in the background.
Folder level limitations
-
Just like in case of shared main folders, moving shared subfolders is not available (you can move their contents).
-
Only members of the main folder can access file versions in the next-gen folders (file versions are not available for users who are only members of subfolders).
- The Camera Uploads and Other Uploads folders are created automatically as classic folders, so their contents can be shared via links. You can’t change this.
- When you create a new folder in Tresorit Drive it will be automatically set up as a next-gen folder.
