Find all your files and folders stored in Tresorit whether you keep them cloud only or synced to your device. Tresorit Drive gives you access directly through your computer’s file browser, regardless of whether they are synced or not.
By enabling Tresorit Drive, there’s no need to sync and store data on a hard drive or SSD. This makes for a good security measure to protect your files in case of theft or hacking.

With introducing Drive 2.0, our goals were to solve some of the technical issues and difficulties, make Tresorit Drive faster and more stable, and reduce (technical) limitations.
- Windows
- Mac
How to upgrade to Tresorit Drive 2.0
Tresorit Drive 2.0 is available for anyone using Tresorit on Windows. You will no longer need to enable direct file open, as it will be automatically available.
- Open Tresorit.
- Navigate to Application Settings.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Upgrade to Tresorit Drive 2.0 (requires admin rights).
Does the upgrade require admin rights?
Yes, you will need to provide an admin password to upgrade to Drive 2.0. If you have admin rights and you are installing Tresorit for the first time Drive 2.0 will automatically be installed. If you have a managed computer, your admins can run a batch update.
Can I keep the 1.0 version?
Yes, but we recommend upgrading to 2.0 for more stability and speed. Tresorit will continue supporting the Drive 1.0 for now.
Requirements for Tresorit Drive
- Tresorit Drive 1.0 is no longer supported on macOS. To use Tresorit Drive, you must have macOS 11.3 or newer.
- The following setting must be enabled: Finder Settings > Sidebar > Locations > Cloud Storage
Using Tresorit Drive
If you are installing Tresorit for the first time Drive 2.0 will automatically be installed and enabled.
Tresorit Drive will be shown in Finder under Locations as "Tresorit".
If you cannot see it here, please check the Finder settings mentioned above and make sure that Tresorit Drive is enabled in the application under Settings > Advanced.
📝 Note: Accessing your files through Tresorit Drive and Web Access will be slower than other Tresorit apps because files and folders are downloaded to your computer and decrypted each time you open them.
How to set up Tresorit Drive 1.0 on Windows
- Open Tresorit.
- Navigate to Application Settings.
- Click Advanced.
- Toggle the switch left of Enable Tresorit Drive.
📝 Note: Installing Tresorit for the first time without admin rights will install Tresorit Drive 1.0. We recommend reaching out to your admin to perform the upgrade. They can also perform the update in batch for multiple users.
Limitations and known issues of Tresorit Drive 1.0 on Windows
- You cannot move or rename folders.
- Uploads and downloads are limited to 50MB.
- After editing files with direct file open, the files may be moved by Drive 1.0 to the temporarily deleted items right after saving. These files can be easily restored. However, to prevent this issue we strongly recommend upgrading to Drive 2.0.
How can I quickly gain access to my data?
You can access parts of your data without having to sync or download complete main folders by using Selective Sync and Direct File Open.
