What if I share the link adding the password in the same email and send it to a wrong person?
We strongly advise that you send the password and the link in a secure manner and using separate channels. For example, send the password via SMS and send the link via email. If you believe that the link and the password fell into the wrong hands revoke the link immediately, ensuring that no one will be able to access the shared files anymore.
Has the encryption been audited by a third party?
We have it on our roadmap to have Tresorit Send audited and to make it open source.
How does Tresorit Send differ from other large file sharing solutions?
Most of the large file sharing solutions, even their paid version lack end-to-end encryption, meaning they are not a secure as Tresorit Send. On top of end-to-end encryption, Tresorit Send offers other security features like password protection, link revoke and access logs for free.
Where do you store data, and for how long?
Tresorit servers are located in highly secure Microsoft Azure data centers in Ireland and the Netherlands. Your stored content and all relating metadata, such as your settings and email address, will be removed from our system 14 days after your link expires.
How come Tresorit Send is for free?
Tresorit Send is a freemium product and we have no intention to transform it to a paid service. If you need advanced sharing features or you would like to store files in the cloud, we recommend our desktop and mobile apps. Check our plans here.
Why do you ask for an email address?
Your email address will be verified and listed on the download page to ensure visitors that they are downloading content from a trusted source. You will also receive an email with a unique Admin Link: open it to manage and review the content you share with Tresorit Send.
Why don't you include the created link in the admin email?
Your Tresorit Send link contains the encryption key to your files. For security reasons, we do not store this link on our servers, guaranteeing that only you can access and share your content.
How does Tresorit Send fit in with the rest of what Tresorit offers?
Sharing files externally is a very popular use-case in Tresorit apps. We created Tresorit Send to make user onboarding to our services easier in a standalone, fully functional app. The registered and paid version of Tresorit gives more control over shared content, including detailed access logs, configurable expiry dates and the ability to limit downloads.
How can I verify my email address?
You email address will be marked as “not verified” on the download page by default. You can verify your email address by opening the Admin Link from the confirmation email. Keep in mind that your email only gets verified for that specific link – you need to repeat this process with every link for security reasons.
I cannot download files on iOS. What should I do?
Saving files from a mobile browser is supported from iOS 13. If you have an older version, you won’t be able to save files, but can still preview .pdf, .docx, .jpg and .png files directly from your mobile browser.
What technology do you use to secure the files?
We apply symmetric keys and the AES-256 encryption algorithm to encrypt data uploaded to the cloud. The secure link includes the key for decryption on the recipient's side. This key is never revealed on our side, meaning only you and the link recipients can decrypt the files.
📝 Note: We advise using end-to-end encrypted chat or email for sharing the link with recipients. Keep in mind that even with our end-to-end encryption, you still need to be careful when sharing the link: we advise using end-to-end encrypted chat or email. Also, remember to use separate channels to share the password and the link.
