When you set up synchronization between a cloud and a local folder, Tresorit continuously monitors both locations to ensure their contents remain identical.
- The sync feature is available only in the desktop apps – you cannot enable it in Tresorit Drive, Web Access, or on mobile devices.
- Tresorit protects your cloud content using end-to-end encryption. This means that files synced to your computer will be decrypted and no longer protected with any encryption.
- Sync requires an active internet connection. If you make changes to local versions while offline, they will be updated in the cloud once you're back online and Tresorit is running.
ℹ️ Sync is available for all Tresorit users. However, business subscription admins can apply policies to disable sync for team members.
Standard synchronization (full)
Standard sync is the primary sync method in Tresorit. When enabled, it synchronizes the entire contents of a folder between your device and the cloud.
Set up standard sync
You can set up sync from either the desktop app or your computer.
- From the cloud to your computer
- From your computer to the cloud
- Right-click a folder.
- Select
Sync this folder.
- Choose the local destination.
- Wait for the content to appear on your computer (a green checkmark
will indicate that sync is complete).
- Right-click a local folder.
- Select
Add to Tresorit.
- Wait for Tresorit to upload the content (a green checkmark
will indicate that sync is complete).
ℹ️ Sync Tresorit with NAS or a network drive.
Selective synchronization
The selective sync option allows you to exclude specific subfolders or files from syncing, so only the selected content will be updated both locally and in Tresorit.
ℹ️ The folder structure leading to the selected subfolders will also be saved to the local destination, because it's required for the synchronization path.
Set up selective sync
- Open the Tresorit desktop app.
- Right-click a folder.
- Select
Selective sync.
- Choose the local sync location, then click Next.
- Check the subfolders you want to sync.
- Confirm with Sync these items.
- Wait until the content appears on your device (an orange checkmark
will appear on the cloud folder).
Sync only one subfolder
- Right-click the subfolder in Tresorit.
- Select
Sync this folder.
- Browse the sync location.
- Confirm with Sync.
Folder icons explained
Tresorit uses folder icons in the desktop app to indicate sync status.
- Only main folders display sync symbols; individual subfolders and files do not.
- These icons are not displayed on local folders.
- In Tresorit Drive, synced folders display a shortcut arrow that points to their sync location, allowing you to distinguish between synced and non-synced items at a glance.
