Reorganize your cloud content by moving files and folders. You can move:
- files within or between subfolders and main folders
- subfolders within or between main folders
- main folders into another main folder
Before you begin
- Moving files and folders involves a background deletion and recreation process. Because each item has unique encryption, they must be re-encrypted when moved.
- If permanent deletion is disabled (Professional, Business, or Enterprise plans), moving is not possible – disable the policy or download and re-upload the items.
- You can only move your own main folders and if they are not shared. Files and subfolders can be moved even if you are not the owner.
- System folders (e.g. Camera Uploads, Other Uploads) cannot be moved.
- In Web Access, items can only be moved within the same main folder. Main folders cannot be moved.
- You cannot move synced folders in Tresorit clients – disable sync, move the folder, then enable sync again. If you move them in your file manager or Tresorit Drive, changes sync automatically to the cloud.
ℹ️ For folders with many files or subfolders, use the desktop app instead of other clients or platforms. Ensure a stable internet connection and wait for the process to complete to avoid missing files or duplicates.
Impact of moving
- Active shared links will break when items are moved. Create a new one if needed.
- Moving items between main folders with different data storage locations changes their storage location.
- Moving a shared folder into a private one removes access for other members – they must be re-invited. Moving a private folder into a shared one grants members immediate access.
