For security and technical reasons, it's not possible to change the name or email address linked to your Tresorit account. These details are embedded in the security certificates that ensure end-to-end encryption and protect your data.
Before you begin
Your next steps depend on your subscription type:
- If you're part of a Business or Enterprise subscription, follow the steps in this article: Account transfer for business users.
- If you have a Personal or Professional plan, use this guide: Account transfer for individual users.
- If you're a Basic or Business Standard user, follow the instructions below.
ℹ️ Check your plan type under My Account.
Change your name and/or email
At Tresorit, each email address can be registered to only one account. If you want to change both your name and email address – or just your email address while keeping the same name – please follow these steps:
- Create a new account using your new email address.
-
Request a subscription transfer (if applicable).
Contact us from your old email address and provide your new one. -
Transfer your folders to your new account:
- Log in to your old account and invite your new account as a Manager to each folder.
- Log in to your new account and accept the invitations.
- Log back into your old account and transfer the ownership of the folders to your new account.
ℹ️ If your old account had access to shared folders, ask the owners to re-share them with your new account.
-
Delete your old account.
To avoid data loss, please double-check that you've transferred the ownership of all folders. Deleting your old account will permanently remove all files and folders, and they cannot be recovered.
Change your name only
If you only want to change your name and keep your current email address, proceed as follows:
- Back up all your data from Tresorit to your local drive.
- Delete your existing account.
- Create a new account using the same email address and the new name.
- Re-upload your files to Tresorit.
ℹ️ If you have a subscription, it will be automatically assigned to the new account.
