The name or email address linked to your Tresorit account cannot be changed because both are included in the security certificates that protect your data. If you need to switch to a new email address, account transfer lets you move your content to a new account.
Requirements and limitations
- The new account must already be part of the same subscription as the current account.
- Both accounts must belong to verified domains. Subscription admins can verify email domains.
- Subscription owners and admins can also use the feature, but their admin roles aren't transferred. Admin privileges must be revoked from the old account and reassigned to the new one.
- If Single Sign-On (SSO) is already enabled on the new account, temporarily disable it before starting the process. Otherwise, the transfer will fail.
- Sync paths aren't transferred. If you sync content to your computer, you need to set up synchronization again on the new account.
Transfer your account as the subscription owner
- Ensure your email domain is already verified.
- Create a new Basic account using your new email address.
- Add the new account to your subscription.
- Transfer subscription ownership to the new account.
- In your old account, navigate to the Profile page and click Start transfer under the Transfer account section.
- Authenticate your old account by entering your password and clicking Next. If two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled, enter the verification code and click Continue.
- Enter the email address and password of your new account, then click Next. Complete two-factor authentication (2FA) if it's enabled.
- Confirm the transfer by reviewing the source and target email addresses, then click Continue to start the process.
- Monitor the transfer. You can optionally revoke other devices and web sessions (your current web session will remain active).
- After the transfer, you'll see a list of folders that couldn't be moved (ones tied directly to the account). Click Done to close this window or Show not transferred folders to navigate to these folders. Manually download and upload them to your new account.
- Log in to your new account and verify that all data has been moved successfully. Transferred folders will appear under the Transferred section, labeled with your old email address.
-
Once everything is transferred, you can delete your old account.
⚠️ To prevent data loss, double-check that all content has been transferred or downloaded and no important data is left in the old account.
Transfer your account as a subscription member
- As a subscription member, you must first contact your administrator to send a subscription invitation to your new email address.
- Accept the invitation and create an account with the new email address.
- Then, follow steps 5-10 from the guide above to transfer your account.
-
Once the transfer is complete, ask your admin to delete your old account.
⚠️ To avoid data loss, double-check that all content has been transferred or manually downloaded and no important data is left in the old account.
