In Tresorit, each user’s storage quota is separate and independent, even within the same subscription. When you share a folder with others, the entire size of its contents counts toward the storage quota of every member who has access. Folder ownership does not affect this calculation – the size applies equally to all participants, for all shared folders, regardless of who created or uploaded the files.
ℹ️ Example: If a 1 GB folder is shared with three users, that same 1 GB counts toward all three accounts.
This approach ensures fair use of storage and prevents shared folders from being used to bypass plan limits. If a member reaches their storage limit, they can free up space by deleting files, leaving large shared folders, or upgrading their plan for more capacity.
Share folders with Basic users
Basic accounts have a 3 GB storage limit.
Because shared folders count toward each participant’s space, adding a Basic user to a folder larger than 3 GB will fill their available storage. When they reach the limit, they cannot upload, edit, or sync files until they free up space, upgrade to a paid plan, or the size of the shared folder is reduced.
